Method

Waffle Batter Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F/43°C) and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the activated yeast mixture, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  5. 5

    Add Pearl Sugar

Gently fold in the Belgian pearl sugar into the batter until evenly distributed.

  6. 6

    Let the Batter Rise

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-60 minutes, until it has doubled in size.

Cooking Waffles

  1. 7

    Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or brush with melted butter.

  2. 8

    Cook the Waffles

Once the waffle iron is ready, scoop about 1/2 cup of batter onto the center of the waffle iron, close the lid, and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5-8 minutes.

  3. 9

    Remove and Serve

Carefully remove the waffle from the iron and repeat with the remaining batter. Keep the waffles warm in an oven set to low heat while cooking the rest.

Whipped Cream Topping Preparation

  1. 10

    Whip the Cream

In a mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer to whip the cream until soft peaks form.

  2. 11

    Serve

Top each waffle with a generous dollop of whipped cream before serving.
