Salad Base

Homemade Chili (No Beans)

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Salad Base

  1. 1

    Wash and Chop Lettuce

Rinse the romaine lettuce thoroughly under cold water. Pat dry with a paper towel and chop it into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Prepare Tomatoes

Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and set aside.

  3. 3

    Chop Green Onions

Trim the roots of the green onions and finely chop the green tops. Set aside.

  4. 4

    Slice Black Olives

If using whole black olives, slice them into rings. Set aside.

Make the Homemade Chili

  1. 5

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add the Tomato Ingredients

Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat. Stir in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Mix well.

  3. 7

    Season the Chili

Add the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the beef and tomato mixture. Stir until combined.

  4. 8

    Simmer the Chili

Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assemble the Salad

  1. 9

    Combine Salad Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce, sliced cherry tomatoes, chopped green onions, and black olives.

  2. 10

    Add Chili

Spoon the homemade chili over the salad base.

  3. 11

    Top with Cheese

Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the chili and salad mixture.
