Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Burger Mix

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties that are slightly larger than the burger buns. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F/190°C).

  4. 4

    Grill the Patties

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each one. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger reaches your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Toast the Buns

During the last couple of minutes of cooking, place the burger buns cut-side down on the grill to toast until golden brown.

Serving

  1. 6

    Assemble the Burgers

Remove the patties from the grill and place them on the bottom half of the toasted buns. Top with your favorite condiments (ketchup, mustard, etc.) if desired, then place the top half of the buns on.

  2. 7

    Serve with Accompaniments

Serve the burgers immediately with pickles on the side and a choice of potato chips or French fries.
