Fried Pickles
Horseradish Sauce
Method
Fried Pickles
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the sliced dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
- 3
Prepare the Buttermilk
Pour the buttermilk into a shallow dish.
- 4
Dredge the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, coating it well, then dredge it in the flour mixture until fully coated. Shake off any excess flour mixture.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Pickles
Carefully add the coated pickle slices to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Horseradish Sauce
- 7
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the prepared horseradish, mayonnaise, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth and fully combined.
- 8
Season the Sauce
Add salt to the sauce to taste and mix well.
