Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Tenderize the Steaks

Using a meat mallet, pound the beef round steaks to about 1/2 inch thickness. This will help them cook evenly and become tender.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a shallow dish, mix together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp onion powder.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the 2 large eggs and 1 cup of milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Coat the Steaks

Dip each steak first into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour mixture to ensure a good coating.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  2. 6

    Fry the Steaks

Carefully place the coated steaks in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the Gravy

  1. 7

    Make the Roux

In the same skillet used for the steaks (with some oil left), add 1 cup of all-purpose flour over medium heat. Stir constantly for about 2-3 minutes until the flour turns a light brown color.

  2. 8

    Add Beef Broth

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of beef broth, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens, around 5-7 minutes.

  3. 9

    Season the Gravy

Add salt, black pepper, and 1 tsp garlic powder to taste. Stir well and remove from heat.
