Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven and Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Mix Together

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. Note: the batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually mix in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk, until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

  3. 10

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract to the frosting mixture.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
