Prepare the Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patty
Shape the meat mixture into a patty approximately 8 ounces in weight and about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of the patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Flip and Finish Cooking
Flip the patty and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness.

Prepare the Bun
While the patty is cooking, slice the hamburger bun in half. You may toast the bun lightly if desired.

Assemble the Burger
Once the patty is cooked to your liking, place it on the bottom half of the bun. Top with lettuce leaves and a slice of tomato. Place the top half of the bun on top.
