Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Generously season the Wagyu ribeye on both sides with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme. Allow the steak to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to an hour before cooking to promote even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Preheat the Cast Iron Skillet

Place a cast iron skillet on medium-high heat and add the high smoke point oil. Allow the skillet to heat until the oil shimmers.

  2. 3

    Sear the Steak

Carefully place the seasoned Wagyu ribeye in the hot skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms.

  3. 4

    Flip and Add Butter

Flip the steak and immediately add the unsalted butter to the skillet. Use a spoon to baste the melted butter over the steak as it cooks for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting the time if desired doneness is different.

  4. 5

    Check Temperature

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the steak. For medium-rare, it should read about 130°F (54°C). Remove the steak from the skillet once it reaches the desired doneness.

  5. 6

    Rest the Steak

Let the steak rest on a cutting board for at least 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute before slicing.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

Slice the rested Wagyu ribeye against the grain and serve with your choice of sides. Enjoy the rich flavors and tenderness of this premium cut of meat.
