For the Tiramisu
Method
Preparation
- 1
Brew the Coffee
Brew a strong cup of coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur once cooled.
- 2
Prepare the Mascarpone Filling
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer or whisk, beat the mixture until smooth and creamy, being careful not to over-whip.
- 3
Soak the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee (and liqueur, if using) for about 1-2 seconds. Do not soak them too long, as they will become too soggy.
- 4
Assemble the Tiramisu
In a rectangular baking dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- 5
Chill and Serve
Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and add dark chocolate shavings if desired.
