Pastry Layers

Natilla Sauce

Fresh Berries

Method

Prepare the Pastry

  1. 1

    Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Melt the butter and brush a baking dish with some of the melted butter. Layer 6 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with butter before adding the next. Cut the layered dough into squares and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Make the Natilla Sauce

  1. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract over medium heat. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and cornstarch together until smooth.

  2. 3

    Thicken the Sauce

Once the milk mixture is hot but not boiling, gradually whisk in the egg mixture. Continue to cook, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 4

    Layer and Serve

In serving glasses, layer the crispy pastry, followed by the natilla sauce and then top with fresh berries. Serve immediately for the best texture.
