Waffle Fries
House Rub
Method
Preparing the Waffle Fries
- 1
- 2
Cut Potatoes
Using a waffle fry cutter, cut the potatoes into waffle shapes. If you do not have a waffle fry cutter, you can use a knife to create crisscross patterns on standard fry cuts.
- 3
Rinse Waffle Fries
Rinse the cut waffle fries under cold water to remove excess starch, which helps them become crispier when cooked. Drain well.
- 4
Soak Fries
Soak the waffle fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. This step is crucial for achieving crispy fries.
- 5
Dry the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible.
Cooking the Waffle Fries
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature.
- 7
Fry the Waffle Fries
Carefully add a batch of the dried waffle fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
- 8
Drain the Fries
Once fried, remove the waffle fries using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
- 9
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and black pepper to taste, and toss to coat evenly.
Making the House Rub
- 10
Mix the House Rub
In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to combine all the spices evenly.
- 11
Apply the House Rub
Once the waffle fries are cooked and seasoned, sprinkle the house rub over the fries while they are still hot. Toss to ensure even coverage.
Serving
- 12
Serve the Waffle Fries
Serve the waffle fries hot as a delicious snack or side dish. Enjoy them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, ranch, or aioli.
