Method

Cooking the Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

Shape the beef mixture into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of the patty with your thumb to help it cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patty

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the patty on the hot surface and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patty, add the slice of American cheese on top, and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty reaches the desired doneness.

Caramelizing Onions

  1. 4

    Prepare the Onions

In a separate skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until they are deep golden brown and caramelized.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Bun

Slice the potato bun in half and lightly toast it on the skillet or grill until it’s golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of the toasted bun, spread the comeback sauce. Place the cooked patty with melted cheese on top, followed by a generous portion of caramelized onions. Top it off with the other half of the bun.

Serve

  1. 7

    Prepare the Side

Serve the cheeseburger with your choice of side, such as fries or a fresh garden salad.
