Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Maple Smoke

Soak the maple wood chips in water for at least 30 minutes prior to smoking.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Glass

Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water while you prepare the drink.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, 1 tsp of simple syrup, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, and 2 dashes of black walnut bitters.

  2. 4

    Stir

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Smoking

  1. 5

    Create Smoke

Using a smoking gun or a covered grill, introduce the soaked maple wood chips to create smoke. Aim the smoke into the chilled Old Fashioned glass.

  2. 6

    Infuse the Glass

Swirl the smoke in the glass for about 10 seconds, then remove the smoke source and empty the ice water from the glass.

Serving

  1. 7

    Strain and Serve

Strain the stirred cocktail into the smoked Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube.

  2. 8

    Garnish

Express the oils from a piece of orange peel over the drink, then add the peel as a garnish.
