Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brisket

Trim excess fat from the brisket and cut it into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Chop Vegetables

Dice the onion, bell pepper, and tomatoes. Mince the garlic and jalapeño, removing seeds if you prefer less heat.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Brown the Brisket

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the brisket pieces and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same pot, add a little more oil if necessary. Add the chopped onion, garlic, bell pepper, and jalapeño. Sauté until the onion is translucent (about 5 minutes).

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Return the brisket to the pot. Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil.

  4. 6

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low. Cover and let the chili simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the brisket is tender.

Serving

  1. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Ladle the chili into bowls. Garnish with fresh cilantro, a dollop of sour cream, and shredded cheese. Serve hot.
