Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Measure Water

In a medium pot, measure out 2 cups of water and pour it into the pot. This will be used to steam the rice.

  3. 3

    Add Salt

Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water in the pot. Adjust the amount of salt according to taste if desired.

  4. 4

    Combine Rice and Water

Add the rinsed rice into the pot with the salted water. Stir gently to combine.

Cooking

  1. 5

    Bring to a Boil

Place the pot on the stove over medium-high heat. Bring the water to a rolling boil.

  2. 6

    Cover and Simmer

Once the water reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to simmer for about 18-20 minutes without lifting the lid.

  3. 7

    Check for Doneness

After 18-20 minutes, check if the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender. If needed, cook for an additional 2-5 minutes.

  4. 8

    Remove from Heat

Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat but keep it covered. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the rice to finish steaming.

Serving

  1. 9

    Fluff the Rice

Using a fork, gently fluff the rice to separate the grains. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil and fresh herbs for added flavor.

  2. 10

    Serve

Spoon the steamed rice onto plates or into bowls and serve as a side dish or as part of a main meal.
