Artichoke Ingredients
Method
Steaming Directions
- 1
Prepare the Artichokes
Rinse the fresh artichokes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Trim the stems if necessary and cut off the top inch of the artichoke to remove the thorny tips.
- 2
Add Lemon and Garlic
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice over the artichokes, then place the lemon halves inside the artichoke. Peel and slightly crush the garlic cloves, then add them to the artichokes or place them in the steaming water.
- 3
Prepare the Steamer
In a large pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the salt to the boiling water. Place a steaming basket or insert into the pot, making sure it sits above the water level.
- 4
Steam the Artichokes
Arrange the prepared artichokes in the steaming basket with the stem side down. Cover the pot with a lid and steam the artichokes for about 30-40 minutes, or until the outer leaves can be easily pulled off.
- 5
Check for Doneness
Test for doneness by pulling off a leaf. If it comes off easily and the flesh is tender, the artichokes are ready. If not, steam for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- 6
Serve
Once done, remove the artichokes from the pot and let them cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed plain or with a dipping sauce of your choice.
