Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the long-grain rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Chop Vegetables

Finely chop the onion, and dice the carrot and bell pepper into small pieces.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic and Vegetables

Add the minced garlic, diced carrot, and bell pepper to the saucepan. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  3. 5

    Combine Rice

Stir in the rinsed rice and cook for 2 minutes, allowing it to toast slightly.

  4. 6

    Add Broth and Seasonings

Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, and add salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and the bay leaf. Stir to combine.

  5. 7

    Bring to a Boil

Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.

  6. 8

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

  7. 9

    Fluff and Serve

Remove the bay leaf, fluff the rice with a fork, and serve warm as a side dish.
