Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.

Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Make the Sauce

Add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the sauce and let them simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sub Rolls

While the sauce is simmering, slice the sub rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Meatball Subs

Spoon the meatballs and sauce into each sub roll. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 9

    Melt the Cheese

If desired, place the assembled subs under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 10

    Serve

Serve the meatball subs warm and enjoy!
