Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prep the Grape Leaves

If using jarred grape leaves, rinse them under cold water to remove excess salt. If using fresh grape leaves, blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes until they soften. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Filling

In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, chopped onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, parsley, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  3. 3

    Stuff the Grape Leaves

Lay a grape leaf flat on a clean surface, stem end towards you. Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll tightly from the base to the tip. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.

  4. 4

    Cook the Stuffed Grape Leaves

Place the stuffed grape leaves seam side down in a large pot. Add enough water to cover them and drizzle a little olive oil on top. Place a plate on top to keep them submerged. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30-40 minutes until the leaves are tender.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove the grape leaves from the pot and let them cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature with lemon wedges on the side.
