Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Cake Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine semolina, sugar, yogurt, and baking powder. Mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter.

  3. 3

    Pour and Score

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Smooth the top and use a knife to score the surface into diamond shapes. Place an almond in the center of each diamond.

  4. 4

    Bake the Cake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Syrup Preparation

  1. 5

    Make the Syrup

While the cake is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add Flavors

Remove from heat and stir in the rose water and lemon juice. Allow to cool.

Finishing Touch

  1. 7

    Soak the Cake

Once the cake is baked, pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot cake. Allow it to soak for a few hours or overnight before serving.
