Grits

Shrimp and Bacon

Method

Prepare the Grits

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Grits

Once the water is boiling, slowly whisk in 1 cup of grits to prevent lumps.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce heat to low and simmer the grits, stirring occasionally for about 20-25 minutes until thickened.

  4. 4

    Stir in Cream and Season

Once the grits have thickened, stir in 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well until creamy.

Cook Shrimp and Bacon

  1. 5

    Cook Bacon

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook 4 slices of bacon until crispy. Remove bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.

  2. 6

    Sauté Garlic

Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet with the bacon fat and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Cook Shrimp

Add 1 pound of peeled and deveined shrimp to the skillet. Season with 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the shrimp are pink and opaque.

  4. 8

    Finish with Lemon Juice

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and chopped parsley.

Serve

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Spoon a generous portion of the creamy grits onto each plate and top with the shrimp and bacon mixture.

  2. 10

    Garnish and Enjoy

Garnish with additional parsley if desired and serve immediately.
