Pasta

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In the same pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk together for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste (roux).

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in the whole milk while continuously whisking to prevent lumps. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Reduce heat to low, then add the cheddar cheese and cream cheese, stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Combine & Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well combined.

  2. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  3. 7

    Add Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and paprika. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese in the baking dish.

  4. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy Nana's mac & cheese with your favorite side dishes!
