1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

3. Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and the sugar mixture until light and fluffy.

4. Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add 4 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

5. Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

6. Add Toppings

Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips and, if desired, 0.5 cup of chopped nuts into the batter.

7. Prepare the Baking Pan

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

8. Pour Batter and Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. Cool and Dust

Allow the baked item to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving as desired.
