Method

Prepare Plantains

  1. 1

    Peel and Slice Plantains

Peel the green plantains using a sharp knife. Cut them into 1-inch thick slices.

  2. 2

    Fry Plantain Slices

In a large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, fry the plantain slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden and soft. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  3. 3

    Form Cups

Using a flat surface or a tostonera (plantain press), flatten each fried plantain slice to form a disc. Then, refry the discs in the hot oil for another 1-2 minutes until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, sprinkling with salt immediately.

Prepare Filling

  1. 4

    Choose Your Filling

Select your desired fillings from the options provided. You can mix and match according to your preference.

  2. 5

    Combine Fillings (Optional)

If using cooked shredded chicken, black beans, and cheese, you can combine them in a bowl for a delicious mix.

Assemble Tostones

  1. 6

    Fill Plantain Cups

Take each crispy plantain cup and fill it with your chosen filling. Top with diced avocado, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of pico de gallo.

  2. 7

    Garnish

Finish with a sprinkle of chopped cilantro for added flavor and freshness.
