Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Begin by chilling an Old Fashioned glass. Rinse the glass with absinthe and swirl it around to coat the interior, then discard the excess absinthe.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Sugar

In a mixing glass, place the sugar cube and add 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters. Muddle them together until the sugar is dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Rye Whiskey

Pour 2 oz of rye whiskey into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters.

  4. 4

    Stir the Mixture

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

  5. 5

    Strain into the Glass

Strain the cocktail mixture into the prepared Old Fashioned glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils of a lemon peel over the drink, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
