Method
Cooking the Pasta

Boil Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.
Making the Cheese Sauce

Make Roux
Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste and turns slightly golden.

Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Cheese and Seasonings
Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combining

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir well until all pasta is evenly coated.
Optional Toppings

Prepare Toppings (if desired)
If using, mix breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac & cheese to a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
