Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour, tapping out any excess flour.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the bittersweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until well combined, then add the eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  2. 7

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Run a knife around the edges of the cakes to loosen them from the ramekins.

  3. 8

    Invert and Serve

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift off the ramekin. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
