Method
Preparation of Topping
- 1
Dice the Tomatoes
Wash the fresh tomatoes and cut them into small, even dice. Place them in a medium bowl.
- 2
Chop the Basil
Wash and pat dry the fresh basil leaves. Stack them, roll them tightly, and cut into thin strips (chiffonade). Add to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 3
Mince the Garlic
Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Add the minced garlic to the bowl with the tomatoes and basil.
- 4
Combine Ingredients
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomato mixture. Season with salt and black pepper. Gently toss everything together until well combined. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Toasting the Bread
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 6
Slice the Bread
Slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 7
Arrange on Baking Sheet
Place the bread slices on a baking sheet. Optionally, you can brush each slice lightly with olive oil for added flavor.
- 8
Toast the Bread
Toast in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy. Flip the slices halfway through for even toasting.
Assembly
- 9
Top the Toasted Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon a generous amount of the tomato mixture onto each slice of toasted bread.
- 10
Serve
Serve immediately while the bread is warm and crispy. Enjoy your delicious bruschetta!
