Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patty

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for another 4 minutes for medium doneness.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet to melt the cheese.

  5. 5

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the cheeseburgers immediately while hot, with your favorite side dishes.
