Method

Cooking the Prime Rib

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the prime rib eye from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously apply the blackening seasoning on both sides of the prime rib eye, ensuring it is evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a cast-iron skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat until it begins to smoke slightly.

  4. 4

    Sear the Steak

Place the seasoned prime rib eye in the hot skillet. Sear for about 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing.

Making Mashed Potatoes

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into uniform pieces. Rinse them under cold water.

  2. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

  3. 8

    Drain the Potatoes

Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot.

  4. 9

    Mash the Potatoes

Add butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy.
