Scone Ingredients

Method

Scone Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the cold unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  5. 5

    Form Dough

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

    Shape Scones

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to make individual scones.

  7. 7

    Bake

Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

  8. 8

    Serve

Let the scones cool slightly, then serve warm with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
