Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Press and Cube Tofu

Press the firm tofu to remove excess water. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

  2. 2

    Coat Tofu

In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Fry Tofu

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove tofu from the pan and set aside.

  2. 4

    Make Sauce

In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, crushed black peppercorns, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, honey or maple syrup, and water. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 5

    Combine Tofu and Sauce

Return the fried tofu to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish

Serve the Tofu-Yaki hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
