Hash Browns Ingredients

Method

Directions to Make Hash Browns

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water to remove excess starch. Let them soak for about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Onion

Finely chop the onion and heat half the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  4. 4

    Cook the Hash Browns

Add the grated potatoes to the skillet with the onions. Press them down into an even layer and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the hash browns using a spatula, adding the remaining oil if needed, and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the other side is golden and crispy.

  5. 5

    Season and Serve

Once cooked, sprinkle the hash browns with salt and black pepper. Serve hot as a delicious breakfast side.
