Method
Preparing the Bread
- 1
Slice the Baguette
Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette into 1/2 inch thick pieces.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the sliced baguette on a baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Preparing the Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the fresh tomatoes into small pieces. If desired, remove the seeds to reduce moisture.
- 4
Chop the Basil
Rinse the fresh basil leaves, then stack them, roll them tightly, and slice them into thin strips (chiffonade).
- 5
Prepare the Mixture
In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic (from the cloves), salt, and black pepper. Gently mix until well combined.
Assembling the Bruschetta
- 6
Top the Toasted Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously over each slice of toasted baguette.
- 7
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and enjoy immediately while still warm!
