Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Beans

In a large bowl, add the dried navy beans and cover them with water. Let them soak overnight, or for at least 8 hours.

  2. 2

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and chop it into small pieces. Leave the bacon drippings in the skillet.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Onion

In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, sauté the chopped onion until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the soaked and drained navy beans, water, cooked bacon, sautéed onion, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well to combine.

  4. 6

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Pour the mixture into a large baking dish or casserole dish, spreading it evenly.

  5. 7

    Bake

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 2 to 2.5 hours, or until the beans are tender. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown.
