Burger Preparation
Prepare the Patties
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
Cook the Patties
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your desired doneness.
Prepare the Buns
While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half. If desired, toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.
