Method

Cooking the Protein

1

Prepare the Chicken or Beef

Season the chicken or ground beef with chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the spices coat the meat evenly.

2

Cook the Protein

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the seasoned chicken for about 7-10 minutes per side or until fully cooked. For ground beef, cook until browned and no longer pink. Remove from heat and shred or crumble as needed.

Making the Rice

3

Sauté Vegetables

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

4

Add Rice and Cook

Add the Mexican rice to the saucepan and stir for about 2 minutes to toast the rice slightly.

5

Combine Ingredients

Pour in the water and tomato sauce, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until rice is cooked and water is absorbed.

Assembling the Chalupa

6

Prepare Toppings

While the rice is cooking, prepare the toppings by dicing the tomato, shredding the lettuce, and slicing the avocado.

7

Assemble Chalupa

On a plate, layer the cooked Mexican rice, followed by the protein (chicken or beef). Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado slices.
