Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation (Optional)

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating until well combined.

  2. 9

    Add Cream and Vanilla

Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract to the frosting mixture. Beat until light and fluffy.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a cake plate and spread frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
