Main Ingredients

Method

Cooking the Sausage

  1. 1

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausage. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Making the Gravy

  1. 2

    Prepare the Roux

In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until it turns light golden brown.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Season the Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to taste. If the gravy is too thick, add a little more milk until desired consistency is reached.

  4. 5

    Combine Sausage

Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and stir to combine with the gravy. Let it simmer on low heat while you cook the eggs.

Cooking the Eggs

  1. 6

    Fry the Eggs

In a separate non-stick skillet, heat a small amount of oil or butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.), about 3-5 minutes.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

On a plate, serve a portion of the sausage gravy over the cooked eggs. Enjoy your hearty Rooster Slinger breakfast!
