Donut Hole Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted unsalted butter until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix. The batter should be thick and slightly lumpy.

  4. 4

    Prepare for Frying

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).

Frying Directions

  1. 5

    Shape Donut Holes

Using a small cookie scoop or your hands, form small balls of batter, about 1 inch in diameter.

  2. 6

    Fry Donut Holes

Carefully drop a few donut holes into the hot oil (do not overcrowd). Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  3. 7

    Drain and Cool

Use a slotted spoon to remove the donut holes from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Allow them to cool for a few minutes.

Finishing Directions

  1. 8

    Fill with Jam

Using a piping bag or a small spoon, fill each donut hole with strawberry jam by inserting it into the side of the donut hole.

  2. 9

    Dust with Powdered Sugar

Roll each filled donut hole in powdered sugar until well coated.
