Cake Base

Method

Cake Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Buttercream Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat the Butter

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add in the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Whip until Light and Fluffy

Increase the speed to high and whip the frosting for about 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.

  4. 11

    Divide for Coloring

Divide the frosting into two bowls. Color one bowl with red food coloring to create the rose color and the other with green food coloring for the leaves.

Assembly and Decoration

  1. 12

    Layer the Cakes

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of red buttercream on top, then place the second cake layer on top.

  2. 13

    Frost the Cake

Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining red buttercream, smoothing it out as desired.

  3. 14

    Create Roses

Using a piping bag fitted with a rose tip, pipe the red buttercream in a swirling motion to create rose shapes on top of the cake.

  4. 15

    Add Leaves

With the green buttercream, pipe small leaf shapes around the roses to give them a natural look.

  5. 16

    Finish the Decoration

Sprinkle edible glitter over the cake for a sparkling effect. If desired, add chocolate leaves around the base for extra decoration.
