Method

Preparing the Tartar Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the Tartar Sauce

In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, dill pickles, capers, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste. Refrigerate until serving.

Making Coleslaw

  1. 2

    Prepare the Coleslaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, grated carrot, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Preparing the Fish

  1. 3

    Prepare the Cod

Season cod fillets with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

  2. 4

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, beer, and salt until smooth.

  3. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.

  4. 6

    Fry the Fish

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Optional Fries

  1. 7

    Prepare the Fries

If desired, fry the cut potatoes in hot oil until crispy and golden brown. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
