Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing

In a large brew kettle, heat 20 liters of water to 68°C (155°F). Add the Pilsner malt and Munich malt, stirring well. Maintain this temperature for 60 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sparging

After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water (approximately 75°C or 167°F) until you collect about 25 liters of wort.

  3. 3

    Boiling

Bring the wort to a boil. Add the hops and boil for 60 minutes. Make sure to stir occasionally to avoid scorching.

  4. 4

    Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 20°C (68°F).

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter. Pitch the yeast and seal the fermenter with an airlock. Ferment at around 10-12°C (50-54°F) for 2-3 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, transfer the beer to a bottling bucket and add priming sugar. Bottle the beer using sanitized bottles and caps.

  7. 7

    Conditioning

Let the bottles condition at room temperature for 1-2 weeks before refrigerating. Enjoy your Muskoka Brewing ‘Craft’ Lager!
