Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the cavatappi pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps remain. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the smoked pimento cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

  5. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked cavatappi pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  6. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

    Top with Breadcrumbs

Sprinkle the herbed breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the mac and cheese.

  8. 8

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  9. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then serve warm.
