Chocolate Cake

Method

Chocolate Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water; the batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate Buttercream

  1. 8

    Beat the Butter

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa Powder

Mix in the cocoa powder until fully incorporated.

  3. 10

    Incorporate Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, beating until the desired consistency is reached. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cake is completely cool, spread the chocolate buttercream evenly over the top of the cake.
