Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Add Fruits and Nuts

Gently punch down the dough and fold in the candied orange peel, raisins, and slivered almonds. Shape the dough into a ball.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the dough into a panettone mold or a tall, round cake pan. Cover and let rise for another 1-2 hours.

Bake the Panettone

  1. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 8

    Bake

Bake the panettone for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. 9

    Cool and Wrap

Let the panettone cool in the mold for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, wrap in parchment paper and tie with twine or ribbon.
