Marinara Sauce

Prepare the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish the Sauce
Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Set aside to cool slightly.
Prepare the Calamari

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

Dredge the Calamari
Dip the calamari rings into the egg wash, then coat them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Serve
Serve the crispy fried calamari immediately with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
