Candy Popcorn and Nuts
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Popcorn
Pop the popcorn using an air popper or on the stove. Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
- 2
Make the Toffee Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, unsalted butter, and light corn syrup. Stir until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- 3
Add Flavorings
Bring the toffee mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. Allow it to boil for 4-5 minutes without stirring until it turns a light golden brown. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, baking soda, and salt. The mixture will bubble up.
- 4
Combine with Popcorn and Peanuts
Quickly pour the toffee sauce over the popped popcorn and Ontario peanuts. Stir gently to coat the popcorn and nuts evenly with the toffee sauce.
- 5
Cool and Serve
Spread the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool. Once cooled, break into clusters and serve. Store in an airtight container.
