Cake Layers

Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Using a mixer, beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Layers

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Layers

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed.

  2. 8

    Add Cream and Vanilla

Once combined, add the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat on high speed for about 2 minutes until fluffy and spreadable.

Assembly & Decoration

  1. 9

    Assemble the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  2. 10

    Decorate the Cake

Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top and sides of the cake, alternating with white chocolate shavings for a tuxedo effect.

  3. 11

    Serve

Slice and serve the cake. Enjoy your delicious Tuxedo Cake!
