Pasta Preparation

Cook the Lasagna Noodles
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well until smooth and set aside.
Meat Sauce Preparation

Cook the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the ground beef (or sausage) and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

Add the Marinara Sauce
Stir in Ricco's marinara sauce. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
Assembling the Lasagna

Layer the Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, then add half of the ricotta mixture, followed by a third of the provolone and mozzarella cheeses. Repeat the layers, finishing with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and extra mozzarella cheese.

Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Before serving, sprinkle chopped fresh basil on top of the lasagna for added flavor.
